Product description

These dark red-violet rose rocks consist of sandy crystals of barite (barium sulfate) in petal-like clusters that resemble a rose in full bloom. These specimens are richer in iron than normal barite roses, giving them their unique coloring.

Deposited approximately 250 million years ago during the Permian Period. The rose rocks are found in Oklahoma’s Garber sandstone formations. Because the barite is more durable than the sandstone, the rosettes erode into positive relief on exposed rock surfaces.
