Tampa Bay agatized Coral is formed as a result of silica replacing the original calcium carbonate skeleton of a coral colony with a hard variety of Chalcedony. The process of this replacement creates beautiful cave-like structures within the agatized coral. Agatized coral is found primarily in Florida but also some deposits surrounding the state of Florida.
