This variety of serpentine, often called “new jade,” displays fine inclusions of pyrite that add a metallic shimmer to its soft green surface. Serpentine is a magnesium silicate mineral formed through the alteration of ultramafic rocks, while pyrite (FeS₂) crystallizes as golden flecks within the stone. Together they create a striking contrast of earthy green and metallic gold, most commonly found in deposits from China and South Africa.
