Product description

This teardrop shaped fossil is crafted by carving 500 million year old cone shells of extinct, squid like cephalopods.  This is a beautiful stone that displays the contrast between the white calcite shell and the dark polished rock.

Orthoceras is an extinct genus of marine nautiloid cephalopod that lived roughly 500-440 million years ago during the Ordovician period. As an ancient ancestors of modern squids and octopuses,, they are best known for their long straight conical shells, which ranged from a few inches to over 14 feet in length.
