Noble Serpentine, also known as Healerite, is a rare variety of serpentine that forms in massive crystalline structures rather than distinct individual crystals. This material is known for its soft, light green color, which results from a high concentration of calcium rather than the iron content seen in many other serpentine varieties. Dolomite limestone inclusions are also commonly present and contribute to its unique appearance.
This material comes from the Wild Turkey Mine in eastern Washington, located in the Colville River Basin near the Canadian border. This is the only known locality for noble serpentine, making it a particularly significant specimen for collectors.
Serpentine is a magnesium silicate mineral that forms through the alteration of ultramafic rocks and typically measures between 2.5 and 4 on the Mohs hardness scale. This specimen is best suited for display and careful handling.
