This striking fossil fern comes from the Pottsville Formation, a classic Pennsylvanian-age fossil site dating back roughly 300 million years, when vast coal swamps covered what is now the eastern United States. The shale slab displays beautifully preserved fern fronds with dark carbon impressions and fine vein detail. Multiple fronds branch across the matrix, showing clear pinnation and excellent contrast against the stone.
