Product description

This Calcite-filled baculite comes from the Late Cretaceous Pierre Shale of South Dakota.  This specimen has broken in half giving it a cave like look when you peer inside of it. Baculites are fossilized straight-shelled cephalopods whose internal chambers and voids have grown sparkling crystalline calcite replacements. The calcite is fluorescent.
