Shrimp Fossil

These shrimp fossils were found in Lebanon and date back to the Cretaceous era (approx 95 MYA). The fossil forms as a result of the shrimp lying on the ocean floor while being exposed to a combination of acidic waters and low oxygen content that eventually buried the animal. They are considered rare because of the extreme detail that is preserved in the fossil, specifically around the muscles seen in the shrimp's tail.
