Product description

Hematite is iron oxide (Fe2O3) and often forms in shades of black to silver-gray to red. Hematite gets its name from the ancient Greeks who named it haima( bloodstone)for its similar appearance to blood when ground into a powder for dye. While unassuming and seemingly lackluster compared to other flamboyant crystals, archaeological evidence hints at something extraordinary as its one of the earliest minerals associated with humans since being found in excavations of the Pinnacle-Point Man dating back 164,000 years and as also as a writing chalk near the beginning the human history several thousand years ago.

These specimens are roughly 1" x .5".
